Monk Business

The rickety bus was already hopelessly overloaded, but I squeezed onto it for an hour's journey home after attending meetings. I wedged into the back seat between 2 monks and some youths. After greeting the monks, a conversation began and it was not long till we got onto the subject our respective belief systems. We had a great dialogue and at one stage I noticed that a number of our fellow passengers were listening very carefully. At the end of the two hour journey, with aching back and knees, my wife and I offered the monks a ride to their temple. They eagerly accepted. They said that they would like us to teach English at their temple, and even talk about Christianity and Buddhism in the future. Hopefully, this was not just polite chit-chat and that I had shared enough with them about Christianity that they did not think that the lift home was done in the hope of making merit. - Pray for good follow-up.
- Pray for many good conversations between Christians and Buddhist monks, many of whom are looking for the truth.
