“I Bet I Can Turn You into a Buddhist”
19/10/2009 5:32 am
When I was visiting the different schools to advertise the upcoming "English Improvement Course", the director of one school challenged me: "I bet I could turn you into a Buddhist!"
We had a fairly long conversation during which I was thankful for the reading from 1 Peter 3:15-16 that morning: "Always [be] prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect..." While this director didn't tell me anything I hadn't heard or read before and some of my questions seemed to catch him off guard, it is important to remember that "debate points" don't count for anything if I don't display the love of Christ. For whatever it's worth, he has invited me back (we had another good talk over lunch), and now he wants to take me to "meet" the abbot at a key temple in Pha Chi. When I described some of the things I've been talking about on the radio program, he complimented me on my ability to explain things. Then he said I must have been Thai in a previous life! Yes, breaking through the barriers of presuppositions here can be really hard! (Tim Noble, church planting, Ayutthaya Province)
- Please pray that the Lord would speak to Ajaan Paiboon, and open his eyes to real life in Jesus.
- Pray for the English Improvement Course, October
