A Story about Storying

Fresh out of language school and several months into ministry, I was excited when Tai agreed to study the Bible with me. We agreed to meet once a week at my house. On the first night we opened up the first chapter of Mark's Gospel and started to talk about it. This is what I was used to doing in Australia. However, after a couple of weeks, Tai either didn't turn up or made excuses for not coming. He didn't appear interested in studying the Bible anymore.
Soon after this, I heard of the significant advantages of using Chronological Bible Stories with people who did not understand a Christian worldview. I asked Tai if he was interested in hearing about these stories (which I had in English) and helping me translate them into Thai. He was not only interested, but began to ask me when he could have the next stories.
So now, when I have someone interested in learning more about Jesus, I start off with a Chronological Bible Story. Last month I started storying with Golf who sells tickets to a kids play area. God has put in my mind some other men who I could start storying with, like the security guard at my son's school who sits at the school gate most the day with nothing to do. Please pray for
- Tai, Golf, the security guard and others to have a hunger to listen to Chronological Bible stories about God's redemptive work
- Missionary and Thai participants at recent "Simply the Story" seminars to put their storying skills to practice as they go about their daily lives and ministries.
- The work of the Holy Spirit in the hearts and minds of those who hear the stories, that they would believe and follow Christ or that Christians would grow in their faith as they contemplate God's stories
