Salvation in Dashe

Mr. Tsai runs his own business selling car and truck tires. About 4 years ago his elderly father fell down and needed nursing care. The elderly Mr. Tsai moved into the nursing home near our church where we visit every week to sing songs, tell Bible stories, and to talk and pray with the residents. Every Sunday we push several of them in their wheelchairs to bring them to church. After some time the elderly Mr. Tsai believed and was baptized. We met his son several times during our visits, and subsequent visits in hospital during a long illness, before he died last year. When the elderly Mr. Tsai died his son asked the church to arrange the funeral. After the funeral Mr. Tsai began coming to church and studying the Bible. He believed and was baptized in November last year.

“Bill” is an unemployed young man with a junior high school education. He lives not far from our church. One day he visited a clinic where a church member works. She talked with him and invited him to church. He came and quickly believed. During the last 6 months he has been coming to almost every meeting at the church and he has brought numerous family members and friends along at different times. He plans to be baptized at Easter before he starts compulsory military service.

Wendy is a professor at one of the lower tier universities near our church. She has a burden to introduce her students to Jesus. For the last 2 years she has been bringing students to an English Bible study run by OMF Partners. There is now a core group of about 12 students who come every week. One of Wendy’s former students, now working nearby, was baptized in November and helps run the group. One of his former classmates, who also believed, and who just finished his military service, has recently returned to the church.

Last month, another one of Wendy’s students, Justin, saw the drum set at the church and asked if he could start a worship band. Justin is a Christian and he recruited another Christian and 2 not-yet-Christian friends to start the band. They practice every Friday night. One of the friends, Carl, has been asking searching questions at the Bible study.

Justin is also the official student sponsor of an English club that we started at the university last month. It seems to be popular, with over 60 students showing up last week. We have called it the “TOP English Club”, which stands for:

Talk English
Overcome Fear
Purpose for Life
May these students and many others in our community find true purpose for life through Jesus!
