Lang Lang had dropped out of school and had come to the city to find work. Her friend, also a dropout from her home village, offered her an attractive opportunity; an easy job earning a good salary. -

North Korean state media have reported the death of Kim Jong-il, aged 69. His son, Kim Jong-Un was described by the state media as the ‘great successor’.

Philippines Floods

From Field Director, Mark Chapman. Thank you for continuing to pray for the situation in Mindanao. As more bodies are being recovered the official death toll has risen sharply to over 700. Hundreds remain missing and are feared dead. The worse hit areas are Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities, with whole villages being swept into the sea. -
OMF UK's Area Mobiliser Team

OMF UK’s recent restructuring has resulted in a new team of ‘area mobilisers’ whose core ministry is to come alongside churches and individuals at a local level to help them discover the difference they can make in God’s plan for the nations. Our mobilisers want to inform about and inspire action towards reaching East Asia’s peoples with the gospel (in its fullest, holistic sense), but they also want to listen, guide and sensitively empower young people; addressing their fears and nurturing their dreams about engaging in cross-cultural mission. -
Japan: The disaster unfolds

At 2.26pm on Friday 11th March, 2011 a magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck off the north-eastern coast of Japan. The earthquake was the largest in Japan’s recorded history, resulting in a series of tsunamis that caused widespread devastation. -

OMF UK is restructuring from 4 January 2011 to enhance our effectiveness in mission to East Asians. Our vision is to put local churches in the UK at the heart of OMF’s mission, refocusing resources on empowering churches to engage in world mission, with special attention on East Asia’s unreached peoples. -
Phnom Penh stampede

A major incident in Phnom Penh last night. At least 378 people were killed in a stampede on the last night of the water festival, and over 750 were injured.
