Serve Asia - Short Term

Serve Asia

When you first bite into the leg of an egg sized deep-fried spider you’re not totally sure what to expect. Tears of joy? Unlikely. A strange rumbling in your stomach? Very possibly. But there’s more to serving the OMF team in Cambodia than having an arachnid snack.

Serve Asia is, ironically, about serving. But it’s also about testing out whether God might be calling you to serve him in a long-term capacity. It’s about learning to love Khmer people and aspects of their culture. It’s about using your skills to help Cambodians and to encourage long term missionaries in their work settings. It’s about learning to trust God in a new way and being a part of an international community of people who are passionate about building the Kingdom of God in Cambodia.

It’s about individuals and teams. Just in this past year we have received Serve Asia workers (SAW’s) from Japan, Germany, Switzerland, USA, Philippines, England and Wales.

Here’s some of their responses to their time in Cambodia.

The highlight of my trip was visiting a Krung tribal church in Ratanakiri, sharing the Lord’s Supper with them and seeing 15 Krung believers baptised in the river. SAW from the UK, 4 months

The Lord taught me many things such as discipleship, fellowship, charity, calling and teamwork. Personally, I am praying for my future life either to become a missionary or a supporter of missions. SAW from Korea, 11 months

I’ve really enjoyed my time in Cambodia. It’s been three weeks packed to the brim with so many varied experiences. It’s been such an eye-opener seeing missionaries at work and realising the very real worries, problems and encouragement’s that they encounter day by day. Also, to be able to provide practical help such as the children’s program and to be part of a family. SAW from Wales, 3 weeks

Think you’ve got what it takes to come to Cambodia? For just US$10 a day we can host you for anything from 10 days to 11 months. There are a number of opportunities with both our Church planting and Development teams. Perhaps you want to work with University students or teach English in a city Church plant. Are you a Doctor or Nurse? Perhaps you are Dentist or Nutritionist? Perhaps you have skills related to income generation projects that you can use to encourage or train locals. Whatever your passion, come and see if God has a place for you with us.

Contact our local Serve Asia co-ordinator at this email address KH-SAC@omf.net and maybe we’ll crunch on some spiders together!
